Kavaan was once described as the “world’s loneliest elephant.” He now appears to be living a much happier life in Cambodia.
The 37-year-old animal is currently a resident of Cambodia’s Kulen Prum Tep Wildlife Sanctuary, where he was recently spotted splashing and lounging in the pool.
After spending 35 years in confinement at Pakistan’s Marghazar Zoo, many people were relieved to see Kavaan enjoying his new home. Due to neglect and inadequate accommodation, the elephant is reported to have suffered from loneliness, malnutrition, and physical damage.
Cher, the global superstar, took notice of Kavaan in 2016. She then relentlessly lobbied for his rescue and transfer to a refuge. Cher and the Loneliest Elephant, a documentary about her involvement, was released last year.)
Kavaan was finally transported to his new home in Cambodia in the year 2020. “He’s so happy there. I knew it the moment we let him out of the crate,” said Cher, who was present for his relocation.
A New Home
On its social media pages, the new sanctuary frequently posts videos of Kavaan. It also posts pictures and videos of his elephant pals Sarai Mia and DiPloh on a daily basis.
Kavaan likes to unwind in the woods or at the watering well. He’s in his pool at times, and he’s eating bananas at other times. But there is one thing that all of the films have in common: Kavaan appears to be at ease and content.
Fans can also donate to the elephant charity The Gentle Giants by sponsoring Kavaan on their website. The money will go toward his caretaker’s salary and food expenses.
“Our gorgeous boy Kaavan was born in Sri Lanka and gifted to Pakistan at the tender age of one. Kaavan suffered terrible neglect and cruelty for 35 years. But now he’s home,” Kavaan’s page says.
“He’s at the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary where he will live the rest of his natural life knowing kindness, compassion, and love from his own kind and the humans who care for him.”
