Former McDonald’s CEO and President Steve Easterbrook is currently supporting a chain of vegan fried chicken restaurants.
Project Pollo, a chain of fast-casual plant-based chicken restaurants, was founded in 2020.
Its vegan menu is modeled after Chick-Fil-A and KFC, and includes items like Popcorn Chicken, breaded vegan burgers, and oat milkshakes, all of which contain TiNDLE’s plant-based chicken.
Easterbrook claimed he “sees a future in plant-based consumption” and calls Project Pollo “an emerging leader” in the industry. Easterbrook was the CEO of McDonald’s from 2015 to 2019, when he was requested to resign due to unethical relationships with employees.
Along with McDonald’s, Easterbrook has worked with well-known franchises like Wagamama and PizzaExpress.
Project Pollo now has a number of outlets in Texas, and it soon hopes to build eateries in Arizona, Colorado, and Las Vegas (in Nevada). It plans to accelerate its national expansion and open 100 outlets by 2025 with the help of its fresh financing round.
Easterbrook, in the words of the chain’s founder Lucas Bradbury, brings “world-class value” to the group and will assist in advising him as CEO.
Increasing demand for vegan chicken
In the US, chicken is the most consumed meat. According to projections, Americans consumed just over 96 pounds of food per person in 2020. In the US, around nine billion chickens are murdered each year for food.
A number of brands have been emphasizing chicken in an effort to appeal to consumers, much like Project Pollo. Even KFC has tested Beyond Fried Chicken, which the plant-based meat company Beyond Meat created expressly for the fast food chain.
Celebrities also like vegan chicken. Daring partnered with Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian-Barker earlier this year to market its Plant Chicken product.
Project Pollo is now prepared, according to Bradbury, to concentrate on a “more disciplined and strategic future” and establish itself as a pioneer in the plant-based sector.
“Part of our success is shortening the learning curve and learning from a variety of talent that shares our mission, offering affordable access to plant-based foods for everyone,” Bradbury stated.
