BrewDog, a popular Scottish brewery and bar company, has made some major vegan announcements this week. It’s releasing a new vegan pale lager in cooperation with plant-based online retailer The Vegan Kind (TVK).
New pale ale from The Vegan Kind and BrewDog
The Vegan Kind Pale Ale, which bears the grocer’s logo, has a 5.5 percent abv and is described as having a “lively bitterness” tempered with pineapple, Columbus hops, and Vienna malts. It’s available in a 330ml can.
“I’ve been a massive fan of BrewDog for several years… And, regularly enjoy their beers so it’s fantastic to launch this collaboration between them and The Vegan Kind.” Scott McCulloch, CEO of The Vegan Kind, stated.
“We know that the BrewDog community are deeply passionate about our planet and making carbon-conscious choices with their food and drink, so we are really excited to collaborate.
The new ale will be sent to those who have signed up for the brand’s monthly BrewDog and Friends subscription next month.
It’s a limited-edition book that’s only available to subscribers.
Controversy
The debut comes amid rumors of internal strife within BrewDog. Following the publication of an open letter by more than 60 former workers, accusations appeared last year claiming the corporation had a “culture of terror.”
Founders James Watt and Martin Dickie, according to Punks With Purpose, a group dedicated to exposing “toxic workplace culture,” gave “weight” to sexist and misogynistic brewers.
“We all felt that in our day to day working lives, there were at best hurdles. And at worst genuine safety concerns,” the letter reads.
It goes on: “Put bluntly, the single biggest shared experience of former staff is a residual feeling of fear.”
Furthermore, employees claim they were “exploited.”
More lately, the bosses have admitted to their flaws. According to the BBC, they have subsequently released a “workplace code” following a thorough study.
This includes, according to the site, firm-wide salary raises and the appointment of mental health ambassadors.
You can join up for BrewDog’s beer subscription here, and this month’s offerings are completely vegan.
