Abbot’s Butcher vegan chorizo is now available at all Freebirds World Burrito’s 70+ locations, according to the company.
The chorizo is available as an option for any of the customizable menu items at the burrito business, including the trademark Freebirds monster and double monster burritos. To satisfy gluten-free clients, the business is also introducing Siete grain-free tortillas.
The Austin, TX-based Freebirds are launching their second plant-based meat product. Beyond Meat’s Feisty Crumbles were included as a protein alternative in the company’s burritos, tacos, nachos, bowls, and salads in 2018.
Without soy, gluten, or artificial chemicals, Abbot’s Butcher chorizo is created with pea protein, smoky paprika, and spices. Abbot’s Butcher products were the first plant-based meats to be certified by the Whole30 program, which acknowledges healthy, clean-label food items.
The company concluded a Series A fundraising round in October, with stars Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson participating, to help drive the brand’s distribution and foodservice expansion.
Chorizo For All
Freebirds hopes to offer an enticing new protein for all customers, similar to Chipotle Mexican Grill, which released vegan chorizo last year as well.
