Veganuary is being promoted by Harry Bidewell, a 5-year-old who is asking people to give up meat and dairy for the month of January.
Last year, the Maidstone-based vegan activist took part in the vegan challenge and has remained devoted to a plant-based diet ever since.
Bidewell and his family also manage Vegan Squirrel, a non-profit vegan organization.
Furthermore, Veganuary co-founder Matthew Glover and Formula One winner Nico Rosberg have praised the young entrepreneur.
Vegan Activist at Five Years Old
Harry started eating a plant-based diet when he was four years old.
He was inspired to participate in Veganuary by his passion for animals, and he has since gone on to achieve wonderful things for the vegan and animal welfare communities.
Vegan Squirrel, Bidewell’s family vegan business, distributes fresh carrot juice and promotes the company’s attitude of “be kind, have fun.”
Profits from the company have gone to animal rescue organizations such as The Retreat Animal Rescue.
“I want to get the money for the planet. I want to save the planet and animals.” Harry remarked to Kent Online.
“He points at the meat aisle and says ‘not kind.’”
Mark and Jenna, Harry’s parents, are also vegans and support the young vegan campaigner in his efforts.
“Harry’s always said it’s not kind eating animals even at a very early age… Every time we go to the grocery, he points to the meat section and says, ‘not kind.'” Mark said in a statement, explaining what inspired the 5-year-old to accept the vegan vow.
“Although we have always protected him from anything graphic we have always been open with him about where food comes from,” Mark added.
While Harry enjoys Oreos, cakes, and crisps like any other normal youngster, Bidewell noted that he prefers tofu, tempeh, and colorful fruits and vegetables.
“We are delighted that Harry had such a great time during Veganuary,” said Toni Vernell, a spokesman for Veganuary.
“It just shows that veganism is for everyone, and it can change lives for the better whether that person is four or 94.”
We couldn’t be more in agreement!
